What Are The Early Stage Symptoms Of A Heart Attack?

One of the biggest killers in the US that effects both men and women is the heart attack. There are over 1 million recorded cases, and around 40% of them will prove fatal due to the fact that emergency treatment is not quick enough. For the lucky ones that do receive the emergency treatment required, the survival rate shoots up to 90%. The majority of hearts attacks are caused by ventricular fibrillation, which is when the heart muscles will randomly fire, and this causes the heart to flutter rather than beat resulting in limited or no blood flow. Ventricular fibrillation tends to happen in people with preexisting heart disease.

In most cases of heart attack there are early stage symptoms that are often ignored, and as the earlier figures show, this can have fatal consequences for the patient.
So by knowing the early symptoms in advance and having a proper diagnosis of heart disease made, a heart attack can be avoided with medical intervention.

So what are these early symptoms? Although the TV may show that a heart attack is something instant, that is seldom the case. Usually a heart attack will build up over time in around 75% of patients, and in some cases, your body could be giving out signals weeks or even months in advance. As soon as you become aware of any of the following symptoms appearing that you do not class as normal, seek medical advice as you could be saving your own life.

Shortness of breath – This is a major sign of heart disease and is usually a result of your heart not pumping enough blood around your body as it is failing. This is the one symptom that can show itself that there is a problem with the heart months in advance. For non-smokers, this is a sign that should definitely not be ignored.

Pain – When the circulation in your body is disrupted in anyway, certain parts will start to scream out for more oxygen, this is because there is not enough blood getting to the area, a sure sign that the heart is nor performing as it should. The usual areas of pain are the upper back, left arm, although it can be both, sudden onset of toothache or headache, and when it is getting to a critical stage, a squeezing and fullness sensation in the chest. Any of these pain symptoms can come on sometime before things get serious, and the warnings should not be ignored.

Other signs are a feeling of nausea and vomiting, heartburn or indigestion, and a general feeling of not being well. Some of the above symptoms may come on slowly, and the patient may consider them just a small annoyance, but regardless of how irrelevant these symptoms may seem, being checked out by a doctor is a small price to pay for what may be a lifesaving visit. Remember that you can never waste a doctor’s time as it is their job to keep you healthy.
